Monsignor Víctor Villegas has successfully concluded a series of productive meetings with important German Catholic aid organizations; Prelature of Chota and ARCORES conclude tour in , consolidating vital alliances for the ongoing development of the Prelature and pastoral work. Accompanying Mons. Villegas were Rev. Fr. Edilberto Bernas, Vicar General, and Jaazeal Jakosalem, President of ARCORES.
The intense series of commitments began on May 22 with a visit to Misereor in Aachen.
The delegation was warmly received by Barbara Schirmel, Markus Büker and Veronika Pezzolla, responsible for projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. Mons. Villegas presented the Prelature’s strategic plans, emphasizing the decisive importance of youth formation, from candidates for the priesthood to school construction.
Social Projects
The meeting fostered a fruitful exchange, in which Misereor offered valuable technical assistance for the development of a comprehensive Strategic Plan for the Prelature’s social projects. Mementos were exchanged, including a painting used for Misereor’s Easter campaign.
On May 23, the delegation moved to Cologne for an important meeting with Dr. Martina Fornet-Ponse from ADVENIAT.
Bishop Villegas heartily thanked ADVENIAT for their , which has historically facilitated essential projects such as a van for remote parishes, a radio station and the rehabilitation of social projects.
Protocol for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Persons. A fundamental discussion focused on the urgent need for a ‘Protocol for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Persons (safeguarding)’ in social projects. ADVENIAT generously offered training, scholarships and direct assistance to develop this crucial protocol for the Prelature.
Dr. Fornet-Ponse encouraged the Prelature to submit concrete proposals for transformative social projects and reaffirmed ADVENIAT’s commitment to continue providing .
The tour concluded on May 26 at the international office of ACN – Aid to the Church in Need in Königstein im Taunus, where Pablo Pastore and Luis Vildoso, team leaders for Latin America, facilitated the visit. ACN has been a constant to the Prelature through Mass stipends, assistance with chapel renovation and seminarian formation.
During the visit, Bishop Villegas participated in a television interview. A fruitful meeting with Luis Vildoso confirmed ACN’s interest in ing the work of catechists and the digitization of the Prelature’s radio station, although he clarified that school projects fall outside their funding scope.
The delegation also met with the Director of YOUCAT.
The visit culminated with Bishop Villegas celebrating the Eucharist with ACN staff, where he delivered a homily about the pastoral history of the Prelature and the vital role of catechists, expressing his deep gratitude for ACN’s global efforts on behalf of persecuted Christians and their continued for the Prelature.
This series of fruitful meetings has significantly strengthened the collaboration of the Prelature of Chota with these vital German Catholic organizations, paving the way for greater in their ongoing pastoral, social and safeguarding initiatives.
